A Few of the Girls by Maeve Binchy

27434560Maeve Binchy is one of my favorite authors of all time, and I was devastated by her passing in 2012. However, I’m forever grateful to her husband and publishers for continuing to publish her work after her death.

It’s bittersweet to read each of these stories, designed to stand on their own, knowing that she could have easily built another charming novel around each of them. Perhaps that’s why it took me so long to finish this collection of short stories; I would get so caught up in each other, and it would be jarring to leave that universe and start in a new one after only 5-10 pages.

My favorite pieces were the ones where the heroine (almost all of the stories have female protagonists) doesn’t realize how awful she is; we really are all the heroes of our own lives. Some of the “lessons” learned were a little heavy handed, and some of the stories haven’t aged as well as others. But each of the 36 stories was a fun peek into Ms. Binchy’s creative universe, and I’m sorry she’s not still here to play in it.

No Starbucks for a Year

It’s November again, which means it’s Jenniversary time! Every year, I make resolutions for the coming month and/or year. These have been hit and miss for the past couple of years, so this year, I’m trying to create achievable goals that will still challenge me.

For this year’s #Jenniversary Challenge, I’ve chosen three month-long goals and one year-long goal.

#Jenniversary: Finish Line!

I meant to update this more often, but well, life happened. Week 2 was…a week and then it was my birthday, followed by a holiday and all of the sudden, it’s the end of the month. Oops!

But I’m happy to report that I finished all 360,000 steps! As you can see, I missed my daily goal of 12K only 4 times and only did less than 10K steps once (flying all day). Even though I didn’t really lose any weight (see above for how this month has gone – LOL), it was fun to challenge myself to go further than I had before. That said, I’m excited to go back to 10K steps tomorrow!

I also managed to post on Instagram every day this month. Some days were harder to post on than others, and I definitely spent more time crafting photos than usual. But it really made me live in the moment and look at what I consider a normally mundane life as something worthy of documenting. Below are my most liked photos from the last month.

Birthday weekend is getting off to a great start! 🍩💯 #jenniversary2016

#Jenniversary: Week One Progress Report

So far, so good! It’s been harder than I thought to add those extra 2K steps a day, and I have a feeling it’s only going to get worse with it being dark when I leave work. But week one is done and dusted with a total of 86,829 steps. Only 273,171 steps to go!

And following the #jenniversary2016 tag on Instagram, I’ve managed to post every day. Too many sunsets, I know, but I do love them! Hopefully, I can continue to expand my aesthetic and find new ways to document my daily life this month.
